A word from the Chairman

Our first AGM will take place on April 23rd.  As this is our first AGM, things may take a little longer than previously as it is a good time to review where we are, and where we are going - and we have a financial report as well.

As far as where are we going, we are in urgent need of additional committee members particularly to act as programme secretary and external competition secretary.  This club has fantastic support generally however it now need you to step up and help to ensure its continued success!

Adrian has sent the following:

"This is advance notice of the club’s AGM which will be held on April 23rd. If you have any proposals or agenda items these should be sent to me by no later than April 9th."

Please contact him via email, if you don't have his email please contact secretary@wilmslowphotoclub.org.uk

After the AGM business have concluded, we will have a mentoring group discussion.

On May 7th, we have the people's choice competition.  There will be two sections - colour and mono and you can enter one image in each.  We are hoping to allow you to view the images in advance of the meetings, and you can vote for your favourites on the night.  Any image is allowed so now if the chance to give that image the credit it deserves. You can enter your images now on PhotoEntry (under the single competition section) or perhaps you want to discuss your images at the mentoring session.

That's it for now, have a Happy Easter

David

Cheadle Alliance Competition

Round #2

This week we hosted the second round of the Cheadle Alliance three way competition. We all welcomed James Hardy, our judge for the night, who is as we know is the past president of the L&CP. James took the opportunity to congratulate David Higton in winning the London Camera Exchange Abstract competition. This is a well renowned national competition. James also took the opportunity to presented an award from the L&CPU to a member of the Stockport Photographic Society.

All the images for this competition were of a very high standard. This was reflected in the markings, of the 48 images in total entered into the competition, the judge, James awarded seven of the images a score of 20.

Wilmslow held its own against a very strong entry by Bramhall, but in the end Bramhall took the honours on the night. Having said that Bramhall has only a 5 point lead over Wilmslow.

The first part of the evening went to the print section were Wilmslow had three images held back. these images achieved one 18 and two 19's.

I think I can safely say that it was an entertaining and very enjoyable evening. I can also pass on the thanks from Bramhall and Stockport, as they did thank me for hosting a really good competition in our excellent new venue. I also think we can give a special thank you to the cake people for supplying a great selection of cakes. In addition we now have a supply of disposable cups, so this will hopefully help the kind people who manage the tea making facilities.

Easter Break

There will be a short break for Easter next week. However I'll be putting out a short newsletter, just to remind people of the forthcoming meeting which will be a speaker Kieran Metcalfe - Chasing the light.

So I hope everyone has a nice and relaxing break over the Easter period, and don't forget there will be always be opportunity to catch a snap or two of an easter bunny.

Here's a reminder of some upcoming events and competitions.

Project Group

The next theme chosen for the 16th April was, Weathering.

As we could not decide on a second theme we resorted to a randomly chosen card ( from the pack of photo themes that no one wants to do).  They represent more of a challenge than usual. Card No 28 reads; Make something, photograph it, then photograph its destruction.

This one may initially not appeal to many but given some thought there is a lot of scope here for creative thinking, story telling, improvisation and using the less familiar features of your camera. Don’t dismiss it out of hand, please give it a go. Learning and stretching boundaries is what the group is all about after all.

There is no fixed limit on the number of entries for each theme and sizing does not really matter. Please put your own interpretation on the theme.

There is an additional subject to the next Project meeting.

Project Group - Additional Seasonal theme!

Following some feedback, the group executive has decided to include an extra alternative theme for 16th April meeting.

The theme is Spring- straight from the camera. This means that maybe apart from sizing, images should have no other external editing.

This is an excellent opportunity to experiment with the effects of exposure compensation and the built in Art type and other modes that most cameras have.
