A word from the Chairman

The images from the recent photowalk in Manchester look great in spite of the weather. Sue is planning a trip to Buxton on August 16th, please let her know if you want to go along.

I've recently signed up to receive a daily Photosnack to my inbox. This email shows you an image for a different photographer everyday with a link to their website if you want to delve further. The images I've seen are very good and it is a useful source of inspiration.  Click this link PHOTOSNACK | Tomasz Trzebiatowski | Substack  if you want to subscribe.

That's all from me, don't forget to sign up for next year by the end of the month if you want to get the discount.

All the best, David

Here is a reminder of a couple of summer projects

Project Group

A reminder of the summer projects

1.' What I did over the summer’  This is quite open,  it could be for example a (few) holiday images, a Personal Project (if you do not have one, why not?) , your first experiences with a new camera or lens, some experiments with software and post processing  or ????????……………. it's up to you!

2. ‘Long Exposure’  By this we are looking at exposures of one second or longer. It could be light trails in the dark, filtered flattened seascapes, multiple exposures, on a tripod or not? ICM.  Phone users may have more of a challenge, does it mean a new app?  Whichever camera you use its an opportunity to try something different , out of your usual photographic comfort zone.

Next seasons competition subjects

From David Hardy

I promised the membership that I would announce the themes for next season's competitions before the summer break but have just realised that it is upon us and I haven't done so yet.

So here they are. Please would you include them in a newsletter in the near future.

Comp 1.       DPI.         Open mono.        Theme.. Flight

Comp 2.       Print.       Open colour.        Theme.. Long exposure

Comp 3.       DPI.        Open mono.         Theme.. Lowry

Comp 4.       DPI.        Open colour.         Theme.. Emotions

Comp 5.       Print.      Open mono.          Theme.. Sport & games

Comp 6.       DPI.        Open colour.         Theme.. Abstract/Surreal

As always it is up to the individual how he/she chooses to interpret the theme. Hopefully some of the interpretations will

showcase imagination and individuality.

I realise that long exposure is also a project group theme for the summer but don't see that as a problem. Not all the members attend the project group and perhaps it will encourage some of the project group who do not usually enter the competitions to do so, and anyway, we thought of it first!
