Wilmslow Show 2024

Many thanks to this years Wilmslow Photography Club stall organisers for a fantastic display. I also would like to thank the Lindow Photographic Group for allowing us to share there stand. Thanks to the efforts of Dave Swann, Fiona Dixon and Lesley Kelly the stand was a great success. While I was there we had a steady stream of people showing an interest in the stand. Here are some of the images from the day.

Manchester Walk

I have to thank Mike Redman for organizing our walk around some of the lesser well known areas of Manchester city centre.

Tuesday possible wasn't the best day to have a walk around Manchester, But you have to work with the hand you are dealt.

Mike walked us around some of the canals of the city, imparting so much history and details of the buildings, and the architects who designed and built them. Mike ably guided through these areas following the canals that I couldn't possible cover all the information in this article. I would however encourage other members to possible ask Mike if he could organise further tours.

The tour started at Piccadilly station, we headed off to our first stop, Jutland Street, which we were informed is the steepest in Manchester.

We followed the canal systems taking time to do take some photographs as we went along.

The facts came thick and fast as we carried on our journey. We followed the Rochdale canal and on through to the now famous Canal street, we carried on through to the Alan Turing Memorial gardens, were we stopped and paid respect to the great man at the sculptor installed to honour him. As I said previously the walk cover lots of interesting parts of Manchester including The Palace theater, The Ritz and the Hacienda. Finally we arrived at Castle field where we stopped for bit of lunch, and finally this was the end of the walk.

The weather did lend itself to some moody black and white photography. Some of my efforts below.

And lastly, I would like to say many thanks to Mike for a most fascinating and enjoyable morning walk, although some of the places you wouldn't want to walk alone, and i for one look forward to any other walks he may be inclined to organize.

Buxton Photo Challenge – High Peak Photography Club

This event is organised by High Peak Photography Club each year and participants are challenged to take 6 photos on 6 themes in 6 hours in the beautiful town of Buxton. The themes are announced on the day and photos have to be taken in the right order, which is the most challenging bit!

The event this year is to be held on Saturday July 20th and entrants can register between 10 and 11 am at The Green Man Gallery, Hardwick Square, Buxton SK17 8PY.  The entry charge for adults is £5 and under 18’s £3.50, payable on the door, and there are prizes for the best photo of each theme.

Buxton Photo Challenge is part of the Buxton Festival Fringe 2024, so there are many other events taking place during the next couple of weeks, making Buxton well worth a visit.
