A word from the Chairman

I hope you're enjoying the summer in spite of the weather, there's still plenty of photographic opportunities around. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, there was an exhibition of Greater Mancunians at Central Library which I enjoyed last week. Unfortunately the exhibition has now closed but you can see the images online. I followed this by getting interior shots of the John Rylands library, lunch at Katsouri's deli and then I had my first ever visit to Affleck's Palace - definitely worth a repeat visit for street portraits.

I hope you can join Mike for his walk along the Rochdale Canal next Tuesday. Unfortunately, on that day, I've volunteered to photograph the rehearsals and concert at the school where my daughter is head of music so I can't make it.

In case you haven't noticed, next years programme is coming together and events for the rest of this year and beyond are available online on the calendar and website.

Finally, I came across the website for Preet Uday, a photographer based in Dubai and loved the colour palette and simple design of his images

That's all for now, David

A few words of wisdom

Using light and colour

some simple compositions using the available light. They have been enhanced with the use of Topaz filters to achieve a painterly effect. But I think without the light and composition they would not work.

Please feel free to send me images you would like to see published in the newsletter. Along with supporting comments on the image/s to further help, inform and inspire our members.
