A word from the Chairman 

Our first AGM will take place on April 23rd.  As this is our first AGM, things may take a little longer than previously as it is a good time to review where we are, and where we are going - and we have a financial report as well. 

As far as where are we going, we are in urgent need of additional committee members particularly to act as programme secretary and external competition secretary.  This club has fantastic support generally however it now need you to step up and help to ensure its continued success!

"This is advance notice of the club’s AGM which will be held on April 23rd. If you have any proposals or agenda items these should be sent to me by no later than April 9th."

After the AGM business have concluded, we will have a mentoring group discussion.

On May 7th, we have the people's choice competition.  There will be two sections - colour and mono and you can enter one image in each.  We are hoping to allow you to view the images in advance of the meetings, and you can vote for your favourites on the night.  Any image is allowed so now if the chance to give that image the credit it deserves. You can enter your images now on PhotoEntry (under the single competition section) or perhaps you want to discuss your images at the mentoring session.

WPC Project Group Update.
 
Last Tuesday saw the final Project Group meeting of the season where we saw a wide selection of images on , unusually, three themes. As usual there were some great ideas and well executed images.
The evening was capped off by David Higton showing us an excellent  selection of street images that he had taken recently in rainy Manchester.  It was quite inspiring for many of us.
 
My thanks to all who have contributed and attended these sessions.

Looking forward to next season, we have yet to have a date set for the first meeting  but in anticipation we have two themes set:-
 
1.' What I did over the summer’     This is quite open,  it could be for example a (few) holiday images, a Personal Project (if you do not have one, why not?) , your first experiences with a new camera or lens, some experiments with software and post processing  or ????????……………. its up to you!
 
2. ‘Long Exposure’  By this we are looking at exposures of one second or longer. It could be light trails in the dark, filtered flattened sea scapes, multiple exposures, on a tripod or not? ICM.  Phone users may have more of a challenge, does it mean a new app?  Whichever camera you use its an opportunity to try something different , out of your usual photographic comfort zone. 
 
You can contribute to enter either or both themes. 
Aim to make you complete presentation last around 5 minutes if you can. No need to  bother about the number or resizing images , this is not a competition but you may get competition worthy pictures in the process. 
 
Any new ideas or suggestions are always welcome.

Club Outing

Hi everyone,

I'm organising a trip to the Wirral next Thursday, 25th April. We will be going to Port Sunlight and New Brighton. Port Sunlight village was purpose built by the philanthropist Lord Leverhulme for the workers at his soap works at the end of the 19th century. The stunning architecture was influenced by William Morris and the Arts and Craft Style and is now a conservation area with nearly every building Grade 2 listed and the beautiful war memorial Grade One listed. The Lady Lever Art Gallery, which he built in memory of his wife, is one of the best art galleries in the country.

We'll meet at the cafe in the Lady Lever Art Gallery at about 10 o'clock when it opens. The postcode is CH62 5EQ. I recommend setting off from Altrincham or Wilmslow at about quarter to nine. After coffee we'll spend about an hour and a half walking round and taking photographs before meeting back in the Art Gallery for lunch at about 12 o'clock. Parking is free everywhere in the village and just near the Art Gallery is a small museum, where you can find out the fascinating history of the village and purchase a map.
After lunch we'll head off to New Brighton and park in the free car park at Fort Perch Rock - CH45 2JU. In New Brighton there's the area along the river to photograph and also an area of street art higher up. We'll meet up again for afternoon tea in the viewing gallery of the Floral Pavilion about 3 o'clock.

The best way to get there is to drive along the M56 and then the M53 towards Ellesmere Port and Birkenhead. Leave the motorway at Junction 5 and continue to Port Sunlight.  The Lady Lever Art Gallery is at the far end of the village. The best way to drive from Port Sunlight to New Brighton is to go back to the M53 and head towards New Brighton, coming off at Junction 1. DON'T follow the signs for the docks and Liverpool, or you'll end up going through the Mersey Tunnel. If anyone wants to contact me about the trip my mobile number is 07552 635400.

Bit of a short newsletter this week, unfortunately life has taken up more time than I would of liked, we all know how that can happen. I think I have included the main points of the week.
