A word from the Chairman

As many of you know my trip to the Photography Show was delayed however I was able to make the trip on Tuesday. David has included the image of me in front of my sailing image on display at the show below.  I didn't realise that it was blurred, I must put my specs on to check the images after I ask someone to take my photo! Sorry I missed the meeting on Tuesday, it looks like I missed great talks and feedback from Jet Lendon, but it's not often you can see your image on display like this.

At the show, I stopped at the SheClicks stand. One of the judges for the LCE POTY was the founder of SheClicks and I wanted to thank her.  Whilst I was there, they asked me to pass on the message to our female club members that they should join their community for female photographers. If you're not aware of this, have a look at the SheClicks website. Job done.

I also took some images for the learned of photographers at the PAGB to comment on regarding their suitability for submission as part of an Award for Photographic Merit (APM).  It was interesting to hear what I needed to achieve this and I may make a submission.

I also had a look at the Neewer stand. This Chinese manufacturer makes a lot of lighting kit and I have one of their flashguns and triggers; it works well.  On the stand were a range of lenses to use on some smartphones, similar to those mentioned by Jet.  These were significant more expensive and I assume of better quality than most you see.  They are available on their website. and it will be interesting to see how this type of technology progresses, and what impact it has cameras.

That's about it from me,

David

p.s. We still need someone to takeover as programme secretary, please don't wait till the AGM on April 23rd to come forward.

Members Evening

This week was a packed evening of fantastic members presentations.

Our first speaker was Stuart Martin. Stuart took us on a whirlwind tour of the Indian Golden Triangle, with some wonderful images of colourful temples and spice markets from Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Stuart showed us images of the intricate inlaid marble (All hand Made) from many of the temples. These were stunning in their colour and design. He went on to described the the chaos around the street of Delhi, you really have to be careful negotiating yourself around the hustle and bustle. He also showing us a video of a Tuk Tuk ride through the crowded streets - Amazing!!

The second speaker of the night was Mike Redfern, on the joys of printing. As we all know we are all guilty of having hundreds, if not thousands of images sat on our hard drives that will never see the light of day. Mike explained through his talk on the benefits of printing these images, and the joy of the final end product and having that tangible evidence that you can show other people. Mike brought along a fantastic array of photo books he has had printed over the past 50 or so years that he has enjoyed photography.

After the break we had the Jet Lendon feedback from the Smartphone challenge presented by David Hardy. As this was not a competition, but Jet giving us feedback of the images we submitted into PhotoEntry it was a nice relaxed time for some constructive feedback. There were 26 images for Jet to critique with prizes for her three favourite images. As this wasn't a competition I'm not going to say 1st,2nd and 3rd, but the three favorite images are below in descending order.

"The Third Man"
Phil Edwards

"Grasses"
Fiona Dixon

"Tram Lines in Manchester"
Margaret Green

Cheadle Alliance 2nd Round

Next week's meeting is the second round of the Cheadle Alliance Competition.

Bramhall - 268

As you see it's a closely fought competition. We hope to see as many members as possible on the night. So please come along and support your club.
