Project Group
Project Group Update. The October meeting saw the best attendance ever for a Project Group meeting to the point that we had to over run our normal time. Thanks to all who attended. We saw a wide variety of images from all parts of the world and combined with the comments from the contributors I certainly learned a few things. The next meeting is on 26th November In the interest of maintaining the momentum I have decided to make some slight changes to the subjects announced on the night. The themes are
1. Demonstrate the use of Aperture Priority camera settings…….. This will be basic to many , but how can it best be illustrated? The Aperture controls the depth of field ,(dof) that being the area of sharp focus that you wish to draw the viewers eye to. The different apertures have a different effect on the dof as does the focal length of the lens. To keep it simple , try and stick to a 50mm lens or zoom setting on full frame, 35mm on APSC sensors (If you have a ’Nifty Fifty that will be fine) MFT users need a 25mm lens or similar. It might work best by photographing the same subject at the same distance. Consider long shots, closer shots (portrait?) and macro.
2. 'Upside Down’ and/or Parallel Lines . These are interesting subjects for found or contrived themes (or combine it with theme 1?) As usual the interpretation is up to you. The idea is for us to learn by going outside our photographic comfort zone by taking fresh images of something we may not normally do. Aim to create a presentation that will last up to five minutes and put it on a memory stick . Re-sizing the images is not necessary as the group is non-competitive. Any questions or suggestions are welcome.
