Tony North

Our next guest speaker is a well renowned photographer who has previously talked at the club some years back.

This is Tony North

About me

"I'm Tony North, a photographer based in Manchester, England. My main passion is macro (mainly insects, flowers and fungi), although I also love urban, landscape and astrophotography.

I have always loved nature, but there's something about spending a few hours in a wildflower meadow capturing images of butterflies and dragonflies that really excites me.
I also enjoy competing, whether in BPE Salons (I am currently ABPE) or in major competitions such as the International Garden Photographer of the Year, which I won outright in 2023."

Project Group

Project Group Update.

Last Tuesday we had  a good attendance of 27 members with 17 contributing mages (including 4 new members which was good to see). The theme of Bridges was well supported,  with variations of many different types whilst others chose one or two bridges and shot them from a variety of angles. Altogether a good mix.

The second theme of ‘Make a beautiful picture of something ugly’,  also had a variety of  interesting interpretations many of which some might argue strayed off the theme. This was not really a surprise but ultimately the goal is to get us to use our cameras, imagination and processing skills.

By way of a change, I set the next theme ,which is:-

1. 'Demonstrate 3 features from your phone camera that you do not normally use.’  The subject is open.

We all use our phones to take pictures and the idea with this is to get us ‘Off Auto’ and explore what other options are in modes/menus. For some it may be switching on “Live” mode, for others it may be turning it off. Explore it , find its limitations , whatever, but  show us some images that perhaps we can all learn from.

The second theme, suggested by new member Natasha is:-

2 ‘Decay’   An old favourite for many, (this is open for Cameras and phones!)

A reminder, this is not a competition,  the interpretation is up to you,  we are looking for a presentation of around five minutes (this should ensure we get to see everyones submissions) Ideally images should be specially shot for the themes and not archive images. Resizing the images to the standard 1600x1200px  is not necessary but they should not be too large. Entries should be on a clean memory stick (ie only the 2 themes on it)

Finally, after conferring with the club management, the Next Meeting is now on 24th NOVEMBER .   ( keep an eye open for other slight changes to the program)

So, there is now less than a month to get those pictures.  The pressure is on……….

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
