Next Meeting

Alf Myers - 'Street Photography'

Tuesday, 21 October·7:30 – 9:30pm

Alf Myers, a photographer based in Preston, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. Specialising in street photography, events and people.

"For years the world of IT has held captive my creative and artistic side, however with a camera in my hand I can explore and create.

Photography has always been around in my life, from the film days to the early days of digital, to now and at each stage, I've grown.

Urban, street and candid genres of photography are where I started and grew up. However, it is the world of Street Photography that inspires me and helps to give a style to my portraits and weddings.

I love to capture the feelings people have and translate them into the images I produce.

I'm now a Preston based photographer and therefore explore the towns and cities of the north west of England, however now and then I do travel further".

Capture Liverpool’s River of Light –
Just 2 Weeks to Go

Five nights. Ten artworks. Time to book your spot.

Blueprint by Studio Vertigo, one of the new artworks on display this year.

Liverpool’s River of Light is just two weeks away – and I’ve got five dates lined up for small-group photography workshops.

This year’s trail features 10 illuminated artworks under the theme “Science and Light”, and it promises to be one of the most photogenic yet.

I’ll be running walks on the 25th, 27th, 28th, 30th and 31st October – and places are already filling.

Whether you're shooting on a DSLR, mirrorless, or camera phone, come along to capture long exposures, glowing installations, and the best of this spectacular night-time event.

Your River of Light workshop guide

Liverpool’s River of Light is one of the city’s most spectacular annual events – and it's nearly here.

This year’s theme is “Science and Light”, with 10 glowing installations transforming the waterfront into an outdoor gallery of illuminated art.

I’ll be guiding small groups along the trail on selected nights, including two new artworks by returning favourites Amigo and Amigo – the creative team I’ll also be working with during the festival.

The waterfront does get busy, so if you’d prefer a quieter evening to shoot, I recommend booking for Halloween night (31st October) – it’s typically the calmest date.

Each workshop is a relaxed walk along the trail where we’ll stop at every major installation. I’ll share practical tips on:

  • Handling low-light and long exposures

  • Finding strong compositions in busy spaces

  • Making the most of each installation, even in the crowds

These sessions are suitable for all levels – from phone shooters to DSLR pros – and as always, they’re gratuity-based, so there’s no upfront fee. Just book a spot and contribute what you feel afterwards.

Spaces are limited, and with just two weeks to go, I’d love to get you on the list now if you're keen to join.
