Apologies, this quite a lengthy Newsletter, but full of useful info

Members Evening

This week we had a members evening, and as all ways it didn't disappoint. There were three speakers David Higton, Kathy Halsall and Chris Hills. David Higton gave a presentation on "Doing underwater photography on the cheap".

David showed us various options for using his phone and water tight housings. This included some great images he had taken while snorkeling in Bali.

Kathy presented a great selection of her "Woodlands in the mist" collection. With some really atmospheric image from around Tatton Park in the early morning light.

Chris took us on journey through his "Unprepared for" Images. Mainly Images of his many travels were he was totally unprepared for the photo opportunities that were presented to him. So the thing to take from this is to always be prepared for the unexpected and seize the moment.

Project Group

Next meeting will be the first Project meeting of the season

Project Group theme is Rain and/or What I did during the Summer.

1. 'Up to 10 images from the Summer’ - this is a wide open theme, apart from selected holiday pictures, consider other successes, failures, what went wrongs, what should I have done in this situation? etc. In fact any image that can be admired, talked about or learned from.

2.‘Rain’ Hopefully it should arrive here again at some time , or, where did you go to find it? and how do you photograph it ?? Remember its not a competition, but taking part can often lead to Competition entries. I hope you all have a good Summer.

Who’s looking at our website?

By Michael Hilton

Just for interest, and it’s not very accurate.  Well it looks like a lot of people are visiting us - with a big increase recently!

Wow, thousands!  But one has to suspect most are not serious visitors.  Most of them not that close to Wilmslow, although we do have excellent accessibility thanks to the airport!

And how are they finding us?  I was hoping from Facebook from my recent posts to find new members.  Top referrer is always our own website, as people click from one page to another.  Google is on top of external referrers unsurprisingly.  But then a cryptocurrency outfit, really?!  No idea what that means.  After that it makes sense again with our newsletter and Facebook proving reasons for people to visit the website.

So what one can say is that there are genuine visitors to the WPC website, probably a few hundred a month.  The rest is friendly bots indexing us, annoying bots scraping the content for AI, and of course some bad bots looking for holes in the security.

The surges show that putting new content on Facebook does make people look at us, and regular updates to our website push us up the Google rankings.  So new stuff is good to make us more visible to the world.  If you can, please post on our Facebook page; if you can’t, do let me (Michael Hilton mjh@compuserve.com) know and I’ll try to add stuff for you.
