A word from the Chairman

As my time on the committee has now come to an end you'll be pleased to know that this is the last of my ramblings. It has been rewarding to lead the club for the last few years and I'm pleased that we have a happy, thriving, independant club. Of course, this is down to the team effort and a huge thanks to the committee members, past and present, and the numerous volunteers who have made the club what it is. I know I've left the club in safe hands and Vincent will be a great chairman, along with the new committee.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM went ahead smoothly with a good attendance of members. The Committee produced some very encouraging reports showing the club is going from strength to strength. All good news for the forthcoming new season. I'm sure there will be a full report of the meeting available soon.

After the break we were treated to two talks. The first talk was from Kathy Helsall about her passion of Flower photography which she had turned into a successful business. The images she shared with us were all of fantastic quality, all using natural light to give then that natural feel.

The second presentation was from Mike Redfern. It took the form of a short slide show presentation, covering 12 months of the year, from January through to December. All the images bar one were in Mono, and for me they were some amazing images on life trough the year.

Next Meeting

Our speaker next Tuesday is George Franks on the subject of 'High Speed Photography'.

The presentation is a practical evening.

There will be a 20 minute presentation on 'how to shoot', followed by a practical session where members will have a chance to use their cameras to take some high speed images.

Members should bring their camera, tripod and any off camera flash kit they have.

Those that do not have their own off camera flash will be able to borrow from others so bring your camera along and have a go.

Thanks
David

Venice Photography Workshop

Colin Jarvis Photography

Join me for four full days of photography in the glorious city of Venice from Monday 24th to Saturday 29th November
Venice Photography Worksop

24th to 29th November
The City of Venice is a photographers paradise. It lends itself to all forms of photography, street, architecture, candid, abstract, textures, but particularly Black and White and especially Long Exposure photography, a style of photography that I am passionate about. This workshop will give you a fantastic opportunity to explore Venice outside of the holiday season, it will be quieter, there may be mist and of course St. Marks Square might be flooded (a photographer’s dream!).

The workshop numbers will be between four and six clients. Bring your laptop as there will be opportunity to post process your images when we have some downtime. I will be running this five night, four day workshop to the stunning city of Venice between the dates of Monday 24th November to Saturday 29th November 2025.  The cost will be £1700 per person. There will be no single room supplement and non photography partners are welcome to attend at the reduced rate. There is also a discount is a if a photography couple are sharing a room. The price does not include flights and you will be responsible for booking your own flight. The flights are currently around £70 return from Manchester to Venice Marco Polo airport. You will be responsible for transfers from the airport along with travel insurance but the ACTV Public transport card will be included in the workshop fee, this gives us unlimited travel by Vaporetto including Lido, Murano and Burano. We plan to rendezvous at Dinner time on the Monday evening.

Further details along with booking terms and conditions can be found below. I hope you will be able to join me for this fantastic opportunity to explore this wonderful location at a leisurely pace and with a group of like minded individuals.

We will be staying at the Hotel Da Bruno on a Bed and Breakfast basis. The hotel is ideally situated near the Rialto Bridge.

A deposit of £800 will be required to secure your place. Contact me on 07938184088 if you want to discuss the workshop in more detail or click the link below if you want to reserve your place.

Price £1700 (partners sharing a room are welcome at a reduced rate)

Further Details
Post Processing is an essential part of the image making process and from my experience it is often the area that lets clients down. What started out as a great raw file with lots of potential hasn’t achieved it’s full impact. We have all seen ‘overprocessed’ or ‘oversharpened’ images and cringe but it needs careful use of the tools at our disposal to ensure that this doesn’t happen to our own photos.

The aim of the Post Processing session, whether it be a day here in Preston or delivered via Zoom, is to firstly run through a possible workflow and discuss how it might be similar/different to your current practice. As we all know there are many ways of achieving the same thing in Photoshop or Lightroom and what works for one person might not work for another. Typically, clients book a post processing session at the same time as a workshop. This has the advantage that we can set the date, but I also offer a discount to those clients who book the post processing session at the same time as the workshop.

If the session is held at my home in Preston the client would bring up to 15 raw files taken on the workshop. If it is held remotely then the client would upload them to me using a site such as ‘WeTransfer’ or something similar.

Each image would be processed in turn, I would demonstrate my techniques and then the client would practice the methods on one of my PC’s , their laptop or by sharing their screen over Zoom.
