Final Competition

This week we had the final competition of the season. The evening was well attended and the judge had his work cut out for him, with again some excellent images to judge and critique on. We were told this was his first comp to judge so his critique was sparing but to the point, which was understandable.

Photographer of The Year

With the final competition now completed, we can tally the scores through PhotoEntry for the Photographer of the Year. Right up and till the final round it was a very tight competition. But with a final flurry of high scoring image by Michael Hilton he managed to pip David Higton to the final post.

I'm sure we can all congratulate Michael on a fantastic win with a year of consistently superb images. And a great thank you to all the members who have contributed throughout this years competitions.

Mount Card

We’ve had an email from Peter Layhe; a former member and one-time Chairman of the club: 

You may recall I gave the club a good amount of cut card a short while ago.
I have now come across around a couple of dozen black cards which I will not use.
Would you like the lot for the club members but on this occasion not as freebies. A fairly modest offer per card should be acceptable.

I have asked him to confirm they are 50x40cm but not heard back; I’m pretty sure they will be.  So far I’ve had a request for 6 of them.  Don’t know what a modest offer is but they are around £2 to £3 each if bought in bulk online.

Edinburgh International Print Exhibition

The Edinburgh International Print Exhibition is open for entries.  This is what you’d call a ‘salon’ and it’s the most prestigious one in the UK, thus of course the hardest one to get an acceptance into.  But this does mean that unlike many other salons, your picture will be in a real exhibition and seen by thousands of people over the summer  of the Edinburgh Festival. Plus it will appear in the exhibition catalogue, again unlike some other salons where the catalogue contains only a small selection of pictures and your only presence is normally a line with your name and the picture title.

So have a look at entering. Although I said it was hard to get accepted I’ve succeeded a few times so it’s not impossible! You can send unmounted prints, so it’s not too expensive to have a go.
