A word from the Chairman

As Christmas is coming, I've put a post on the website about our Christmas social, we need to know numbers as soon as possible. See here for more information.

The closing day for upload of images for Competition 3 is next Tuesday, there is the Open Colour section and the theme section is Lowry.  I'm looking forward to seeing lots of images from as many as you as possible, don't forget to put them in the right order on PhotoEntry in case we have to cull them.  If you need help with PhotoEntry, get in touch with David Hardy and you can find rules and guidance on the club website.

I went across the Pennines last week to Salts Mill in Saltaire to look at the exhibition of Ian Beesley's work. If you like photojournalism/documentary it is highly worth a visit.

If you fancy heading to Colwyn Bay this weekend, Cambrian Photography are holding a social event (The link is to the details on their Facebook page).

See you on Tuesday, David

Project Group

Tuesday evening saw another good turnout of club members and guests for the Project Group evening . We were treated to a wide variation of images showing great imagination and in some cases stretching the boundaries on the set themes of  "Demonstrate the use of Aperture Priority" and  "Upside down and/or Parallel Lines".  The group is non competitive but certainly we saw some images which should do well if entered in the appropriate competition.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 4th February 2025.  For that event, the following themes were chosen:-

1. Tree Triptych.  In the photo club world the usual triptych is a set of 3 associated images presented as a single print or, as in our case as a single DPI. It therefore becomes both a photographic and processing challenge. The trees can be whole or parts and up to about 6 DPIs will be acceptable.  (many Olympus cameras can produce 3 images on one frame in camera, no doubt others can as well as some phones with apps?)

And/or

2. Feet.  (or did Phil mean feat???)  Is this too easy or not?  Let us see how your imagination can be stretched to create some stand out images………..

As usual the idea of this Group is to give you a purpose to take some fresh images on your camera and perhaps learn new photographic and processing skills. Put your own interpretation on the theme and create a presentation to last up to about 5 minutes.

As it is not a competition there is no need to specially size your images and remember to put them on a memory stick which contains nothing else but one folder for each theme that you are entering.

Questions and suggestions are welcome.

Next Meeting

Next week we have a talk by Steven McNally on B&W Landscapes. From his website "I am a photographer with a passion for landscapes and seascapes being based in the North West i am close to the Lake District,Peak District,Snowdonia and local coastal regions of the UK.

Arriving before dawn and at dusk to use the golden light in these rugged picturesque areas of the UK. i really enjoy visiting different places and capturing the setting and mood of the area that art lovers will enjoy and will look beautiful and a talking piece on their living room wall for many years.

Working with digital cameras and filters ,careful metering and exposing the image trying to capture the scene in camera .Post processing is kept to a minimum other then a little level and colour curve adjustments to produce the raw file ,so the photograph is as the eye as seen the scene.

My work has featured in local and national newspapers and photography magazines as well as on tv "
