A word from the Chairman

Back from hols and straight off onto the light painting workshop - what an enjoyable evening even though I resembled a headless chicken as I missed Tim's talk on the subject (and from sleep deprivation due to the flight home).  We will share images taken at the workshop at the next members evening.  Last week was a members evening and we had great talks on making a 'zine from Vince, birds in flight from Dave and I showed some of my safari holiday snaps.  We also discussed membership forms and interest groups - see the information below.

In case you missed both the AGM and the last meeting, you won't be aware that this is my final year as chairman - I step down at the next AGM on April 29th 2025. That's just 204 days or just over 28 weeks.  I'm raising this now as it would be better for whoever (i.e. you) to start learning how things work now.  We will also have other committee roles to fill.  It will be a great shame if the club were to fold due to lack of volunteers, which is the fate suffered by many other clubs.

Speaking of volunteers, please can we have some to help collect visitor fees. Let Vincent, our treasurer, know if you are happy to help, his email is below.

Finally don't forget that we have an ad-hoc, member voted smartphone competition on 12th November - there's a space on PhotoEntry for you to upload your entries.

Hope to see you at our first competition next week,

David

Membership forms

The committee has decided that we need all members to complete a membership form, primarily so you can agree with the clubs rules. We also thought it would be good to have contact details in case of an emergency.  If you've not already done so, please can you fill in the form with your name, and emergency contact details then sign and pass to the treasurer for storage.

We also thought it would be good to have other information so we can create a club directory with details of who has knowledge of various equipment, techniques etc when they wish to ask for help, along with contact details.  Questions have been raised about privacy and we will store your details on a local computer (not the cloud) and create a pdf document to be emailed to those in the directory.  It is entirely up to you if you wish to supply your details and then get the details of others. By the way, you can omit your date of birth, gender and address from the form if you wish.

You can download the form from the club website Membership Form 2024-2025 | Wilmslow Photography Club (wilmslowphotoclub.org.uk). Once you've completed it, either give a copy to Vincent or photograph it and email it to treasurer@wilmslowphotoclub.org.uk

Interest groups

Changing our mentoring groups to interest groups was floated at the last meeting and this was agreed.  Anyone can start and run an interest group, you just need to come forward and let the chairman and others know.  Our chairman suggested some initial interest groups and we've had volunteers to lead these groups.  It is up to each group what they do, when and how they communicate and if they want to meet up in addition to normal club meetings.

Here are the current groups and names of the folks who have volunteered to lead them.  Please contact the leader directly if you want to join an interest group.

Street photography - Gary Schultz
Lightroom - Vincent Verzijl
Making a zine or photobook - Vincent Verzijl
Garden/Flowers/Macro - Kathy Halsall
Wildlife - Dave Swann
Astrophotography - Dave Swann

We have set aside half of two of the members evenings on 21st January and 29th April for interest group activities - exactly what this will cover is undecided however your suggestions are welcome.  If you want to lead an interest group on an additional topic, please let our chairman know.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is the first competition of the season. So please come along and support all those who have submitted images to be judged by our guest judge.

The theme of the competition will be Open Mono and Flight, how people have interpreted flight is up to them, as I understand anyway.
